Japan has an identity crisis.

Over the centuries it has been in danger of loosing ancient and powerful traditions. This is the story of Japan, told through the art of tattooing, from birth to rebirth. This was a student project in typography and type setting, creating a book about an art or artisan. I chose to create my book about the history of tattooing in Japan, which I had studied previously and found it to be a fascinating subject. The book was an experiment in conceptual publication and editorial design, and awakened a love for both.
